Mini Goats are Nuts

Those two mini-girls, Opal and Lotus, are nuts.  They think they are big goats and try to challenge us to fights.  Looks like Opal shouldn't have picked on Vixen.

Okay, so we just know that Vixen has a harder horn than Opal, but still...

The vets came and fixed her up.

See, she's just fat and sassy again.  But look at Lotus.

She's just about as bad.

It's broken completely off on the hard outer horn, but the soft membrane around the blood well hasn't broken yet.

She's doing all she can to change that.

Goofy mini-goats.

Bet she doesn't like the visit to the vet's office to get that fixed...

Trend Setter

The human is not big on piercings and tattoos.  She says she prefers us to be natural.

Besides, she knows who we are without a silly numbered earring in our ears.  Victoria decided to go all punk and get some jewelry anyhow.

I don't know what possessed her to try this, but she pierced her eyelid.

I'm sure I wouldn't do that.  It didn't seem to bother her, but I would think it would be annoying.

Well, the human threw a hissy fit and called the vet to come remove her eyelid jewelry.  I did hear the human tell the vet she didn't know how on earth Victoria did it.  He seemed rather unimpressed by a "wire in her eyelid" until he saw her choice of the heavy fence wire.

I think Victoria is regretting the whole incident.

She no longer has her eye jewelry, and she's getting antibiotics because she didn't have it done in a sterile manner.  We all hope it heals up nicely.

Just let this be a lesson.  If you get a piercing, don't do it yourself!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Yep, it's the day we celebrate my birthday!

Although I must say I was not happy that I had to have Dr. Hickman come see me today. The human is such a worrier, especially since I'm four months pregnat. I have a bit of evening cough because of our warm wet evenings.

I'm fine really. I certainly did not deserve the rude exam I received. Harumph! I did get a peanut though. I did last night too.

It's also the day we celebrate my twin sister Minnie's birthday.

She was enjoying the peanut treats too.

Cutie also gets to celebrate her birthday with us.

See we weren't born on the farm, so we don't know the exact day we were born. We all celebrate on February 1.

We all turned eight-years-old. Even Meg.

She wasn't happy to see Dr. Hickman either because he chopped and picked at her sore hoof. It's back to a bit of hoof rot.

(Don't tell her, but I heard the human say she was going to do more garlic treatments and put the boot back on before our bad weather this weekend).

Dr. Schmitz is Coming

The human says Dr. Schmitz is coming tomorrow.

Meg is limping, but I don't know why I'd need to see him.

If you haven't been coming around here for very long, the human makes me wear horn casts.

I'm getting new ones tomorrow.

I'm NOT going to stop playing my horns. I hope she knows that.

Visiting Iowa State University

We had a big adventure today. It wasn't for a very good reason. Pam is very sick. The human made Pam, Minnie, Joe and me get on that trailer.

It was very scary. They took us to a big building at Iowa State University. It was called the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center.

They backed the trailer up to this big round place and we walked through a lot of LOUD metal gates.
Pam was on one side by herself.

Minnie, Joe, and I were on the other side.

They treated us like queens! They brought us hay and water.

Minnie said, "What! I'm stress eating. Leave me alone." I admit it was very loud and scary. Then it was boring.

My Joe was the heroine. They took 1.2 liters of her blood and gave to Pam.

Pam was so sick that she stayed at the hospital. Not only is she very anemic, but they discovered she was filled with drug resistant worms.

They told the human she did everything right, but she was still very upset and worried. We're all worried about Pam.

Linking to Farm Friend Friday.

Dear Dr. Schmitz

Dear Dr. Schmitz,

The human said you are coming to visit me Thursday. I just wanted to thank you. I am very tired, but I still like to eat (especially corn or goat chow). I just am too tired to eat a lot.

My eyes are watery. I think I may have scratched my right eye on my hay. I did that last year too. Maybe I should close my eyes when I eat. It is slowly getting better.

Last week, the human collected a fecal sample and had it tested. I'm so embarrassed! At least the sample was clean--no parasites! Yeah for the herbal wormer.

The human looked at my back and said I have dirty skin (you try having kids bounce on your back with the wet, muddy year we've had), but she didn't see any bugs. If you wanted to check I'd feel better because the human is blind in one eye and blond in the other.

She also thinks I might have a slight fever. She did the mom test, putting her cheek against my face.

Again, thank you so much for coming out here to check on me when nobody's home. I promise I will try not to move too much when you take my blood. I know the human is really worried about me. I keep telling her I'm sick, but she wants the name and when I'll be better.

Sincerely,
Millie Ann Saanen

PS I sure hope the human remembers to laminate and put my letter on the post in the morning.
