Muddy

We're not happy goats right now.



It's warm and muddy, and we're positively sweating in our winter coats.



We're hoping nobody catches the flu.



The human told us that there's an epidemic going on.

Maybe the human should give us some treats to help us stay healthy.

Up and Around

He might not be a buck anymore, but Marley is still quite an impressive hunk of male goat, all 200 pounds of him!

He's up and around and feeling much better now. He would like to thank everyone for the well wishes.

I'm Back!

I am so glad to be back.  I'm feeling much better.  I want to thank everyone for their well wishes.

My human might be right about something for once.  She says I should resist my goat nature as an animal of prey and let her know much sooner when I'm not feeling well.

I'm spending most of my time eating and sleeping right now.

She's bringing me wonderful oak leaves

and strawberries!

So very yummy!

I do think Myson, the human's kid, did a good job while I wasn't feeling well, 

so I might let him help me out for a while yet while I'm still recovering if that's okay.

Another Bottle Baby or Two

The human has been feeding all kinds of bottle kids because of three sets of triplets and Annie ignoring one of her kids. Guess who's finally taking a bottle!

Harley!

After she and mom were both sick, the human started babying them.

Harley finally decided to take a bottle.

Is she really trying to drink from that bottle?

Is the human really letting her drink from the bottle?

I suppose it will help her feel better too. There's nothing like goat milk to promote good health!

Too bad it's not real milk.

Is it just me, or does Muffin look happy to be out of the pen and back with her girls?

She better not let them nurse and get run down, or the human will lock her back in!

Locked Up Again

The human shut me back up north. The human says I'm spending too much energy browsing in pasture.

She just wants me to stand around and eat. At least I have Bambi with me this time.

I'm with Kizzy and Muffin. They might share, but I do not. See Muffin's butt as she walks away. That was my suggestion to her.

And while I'm shut in here, Minnie is encroaching on my favorite napping spot.

Yep, we all have colds (Achoooo).

Diagnosis

Dr. Schmitz came and took blood, which I did not like. This afternoon, he talked to the human and said that the only thing the test showed was anemia. I'm supposed to eat lots. I'm supposed to eat lots of good stuff. I think I just might take the vacation that was suggested. Maybe I'll see if my sister, Minnie will let you know what's going on around here.

After all, it's pretty boring where I am. Just me and Scarlet and the annoying twins (Flower and Bud) when they feel like it.

I'm going to go eat an oak leaf. Minnie told me about this. I wouldn't want to eat here tonight.

Dear Dr. Schmitz

Dear Dr. Schmitz,

The human said you are coming to visit me Thursday. I just wanted to thank you. I am very tired, but I still like to eat (especially corn or goat chow). I just am too tired to eat a lot.

My eyes are watery. I think I may have scratched my right eye on my hay. I did that last year too. Maybe I should close my eyes when I eat. It is slowly getting better.

Last week, the human collected a fecal sample and had it tested. I'm so embarrassed! At least the sample was clean--no parasites! Yeah for the herbal wormer.

The human looked at my back and said I have dirty skin (you try having kids bounce on your back with the wet, muddy year we've had), but she didn't see any bugs. If you wanted to check I'd feel better because the human is blind in one eye and blond in the other.

She also thinks I might have a slight fever. She did the mom test, putting her cheek against my face.

Again, thank you so much for coming out here to check on me when nobody's home. I promise I will try not to move too much when you take my blood. I know the human is really worried about me. I keep telling her I'm sick, but she wants the name and when I'll be better.

Treat Tub

With all the wet weather it's been hard for us to go out to pasture to eat. We don't like to get wet you know. Anyhow, the human asked me if there was anything she could do that would help us stay healthy with this difficult year.

All that water makes the worm eggs float, and then it's more likely the kids (or those big girls down low on the food chain) will be wormy. Nutrition and overall health places a big part in staying healthy despite those evil parasites. Back to the human. I told her we needed a lick tub.

Then I thought about it and decided we'd better have two. Then I'd actually be able to get some. Well, I didn't think she'd listen to me, but then she came carrying in a blue bucket. Then she brought in another one. She really did bring us the two lick tubs just like I requested! Sadie even thinks it will make a good head scratcher.
