Now Look What She Did

As if leaving pies in our food pans wasn't bad enough, look what that Maxine cow did now!

Luckily, she's keeping him out in the pasture.

She lets the big ox calf sit while she grazes.  She's at least smart that way.

Bad Bovine

You know we share our pasture with a couple of bovine.  Well, they decided they wanted to spend time in our barn.

I wasn't sure we should let them, but, being a nice goat, I decided to let them stay.

I've decided I shouldn't be so nice.  Look what they did!

I can't believe this!  This is just wrong!!!!

Look Who Showed Up

The bovine ran out of water in the Back Forty.

Now we have to try not to get stepped on by those big water hogs.

A Lovely Christmas Day

We are still enjoying beautiful weather.

The kids were enjoying the weather.

Kizzy was basking. We were all basking.

The bovine were even hanging out by us lounging in the sun and grazing.

I can't believe how nice and almost green it is. Oh, I wish the human would let us over there for a good browsing session. Now that would have been a Christmas gift.

The Earth is Moving!

We went out to pasture tonight like we do every evening, but it was so different! We found a huge pile of trees.

Pebbles had to climb all the way to the top to find anything green.

The ox thought that one looked like a good place to scratch his face.

Then we saw this.

The ditch was gone. Just gone! We couldn't believe our eyes.

That naughty little bull got wound up and chased us when he saw all the weird stuff that had happened back here.

That did not make us happy, but he finally left us alone.

We looked and looked and finally found the ditch.

Look at this. No grass and no ditch!
That black space used to be ditch. Now, we can just walk across it.

The Long Way Around

We're across the ditch going to the back hill. It's our new favorite place to eat. Somebody is missing.

Lily is hanging out on the other side of the ditch with the llama. Why didn't she come across with us?

She has a sore foot. (A bit of bacterial hoof rot, and she isn't nice about letting the human treat it).

We're going to enjoy eating the shrub in this ditch.

There goes Lily.

Past the cows.

Over the crossing.

She's crossing the mown hill between the cows and us.

Look at that Lily goat move.

She's finally back with us.

That's the long way around, but she made it.

New Moms

New moms are quite the strange breed. As soon as the babies arrive, we know to clean them off and stand still so they can nurse. We wash them and look after them. I must admit, the human has gotten soft since I had my first kids. Now she helps out by cleaning bottoms with icky colostrum poo stuck to them. I had to take care of it myself. Anyhow, my point is that new moms just know what to do.

Then, for some strange reason you get one or two that just gets stupid. Jilly decided to take her day old daughter out to pasture--the big pasture. She had to go down the lane and over "Dead Tree Hill." That's when Jilly started screaming so loudly that it got the attention of the human who was busy getting Red's head out of the fence. Jilly lost her daughter! Granted, she had located Lindy by the time the human got there, but look at the dangers. She could easily get lost in that tall grass.

Do you think these big oafs are going to be looking out for an itty bitty kid? I don't think so.

I really don't think he's a guard llama. He'd just spit at her.

There's no way she could keep up climbing around these trees.

Again, the human spoils her. She stood out there cuddling Lindy, who just slept in her arms. Jilly would take a bite and a step or two and then yell and come running back to sniff her baby. Then she'd go off and have another bite before she came back to sniff the baby again. Finally, the human took Lindy back to the barnyard and Jilly followed.

It's much safer for a little kid here.

The next day, the human told Jilly she darn well better not take that baby out to pasture. Jill was smart enough to listen. This was her reward.

The human gave her hay. I was still in the barnyard, so I got to have a snack before going out to browse. I think we should always get a snack. Jill was still a goof. She was getting worn out going between baby and hay, so she insisted Lindy come right beside her.

It's a miracle these kids survive their new moms.

Praise to the Human!

I couldn't believe the human was trying to starve me. I just couldn't believe it. When I was so hot and pregnant, I kind of quit going out to pasture. The human would bring me hay when everyone else had gone down. She was feeding me and Scarlet and Minnie (because she's a neurotic baby). She was so nice about it. Then I had the kids and she was feeding me hay. Wasn't that sweet of her?

After a few days, she quit giving me hay. I tried to go out to pasture, but the gate was closed. I couldn't get food. When I wasn't watching, she must have let everyone else out there because it was just me and Minnie left in the barnyard. For a week and a half I've been surviving on nasty barnyard weeds.

Finally, I begged for her to feed me. It was so cruel. She just said, "Go out to pasture." That's what she'd been telling Minnie this whole time. I begged again. Then finally, she took me by the collar and led me through the barnyard. We turned and then I saw grass.

Grass never tasted so good. I knew she wasn't really trying to starve me. I just didn't know what she meant when she told me to go to pasture. Minnie followed us and just stared as I devoured the grass.

Finally, the human convinced her it was okay for her to join me.

I thought she was going to try and eat the same piece of grass I was after. But she was just as hungry for good food as me, and she's neurotic, so I had to hold her hoof. We kept eating until we got to the end of the lane.

When I looked up, this is what I saw.

There was a whole hill of grass. I couldn't believe it. We kept going.

There were rose bushes and gooseberry bushes, but they had mostly been eaten off. It was true what everyone else was saying about a green lush land over the hill. I thought they were making this up, that it was a fairy tale.

When we got to the top of the hill, I finally saw them. Everyone but Minnie and I had been going out to eat every day while we were barely getting by on those horrible weeds.
"I told you so," taunted Meg.

Some of them were even across the ditch. I kept asking Pebbles why they had muddy hooves. I just didn't really believe there was such a ditch and such a pasture and all this food. Really, they were eating across the ditch. They were running and bouncing and having so much fun.

The llama was laying there under a tree. He didn't really look too happy about all of us goats in the pasture with him.

The boys were in the pasture across the fence. I knew I'd seen them by the gate when I couldn't get through it. They looked like they were enjoying the food too.

Oops! It looks like Betty Lou about fell in the ditch.

Poor muddy Betty. Hrmmph. They should all fall in the ditch for not telling Minnie and me about this place. I knew the human wouldn't starve me.

Look, even the bovine are out here enjoying the pasture beneath the full moon. Food! I have delicious food again.
