Happy Turkey Day

I hope all you humans enjoyed Thanksgiving Day (at least those of you in the United States) and remembered to give your goats lots of apple treats (unlike some human here).

Yes, I know Naughty Rooster Boy isn't a turkey, but he's the closest we come, and turkey is nicer than some things he gets called.

Somebody Has a New Name

The human is mad at somebody, and she's given him a new name.

It's not this guy. He's still nameless, but she's not mad at him.

He just dances for the ladies and looks pretty. Who could be mad about that?

It's not Quackers.

He's old and sweet, and she would never call him anything but Quackers.

It's not Dora the Explorer Rooster, but I'm thinking he'd appreciate a new name.

Who could it be? No not this rooster. He doesn't have a name either, but I bet he's glad this isn't his name.

Naughty Rooster Boy? Of course, that's who it is.

I'm too much of a lady to tell you what she's calling him,

but it's usually preceded by the human yelling and followed by her going after a bandaid.

He's certainly back to being a Naughty Rooster Boy.

No More Free Range Chickens

Naughty Rooster Boy and his two hens were free ranging. The human has been a bit worried about the girls because they were inside and she couldn't get them much food. (I don't know why she thinks we wouldn't share grain with them).

They've been out a bit more, but they still didn't get nice bright combs like Naughty Rooster Boy. (His isn't as bright as it sometimes is.)

Then a couple of days ago, the phoenix just strolled into the duck, chicken and peafowl pen~her old home where the raccoon attacks occurred.

She seemed quite content.

Naughty Rooster Boy and the other hen would hang around, but the human couldn't ever get them to go in. Yesterday morning when she came out before sunrise to milk Minnie, Rooster Boy was just sitting on the ground by the pen. She scooped him up and put him inside.

Then she found the little orange hen. She is very thin and pale. You can't see how thin she is, but when the human picked her up, she was just skin and bones.

We hope she'll be okay.

Feather Brains

When the human moved the ducks and peafowl back to their pen (and gave us back our nice building), she just left Naughty Rooster Boy and the two hens. Just left them to free range.

And they were so feather-brained that they stayed in the building. Finally, Naughty Rooster Boy decided that no hen was worth starving for, so he came back out. Now don't think the human was really letting them starve. I saw her throwing them some of MY grain. But they were still in the windowless building all the time. They finally came out.

The human says that the two girls will get bright red combs like Naughty Rooster Boy's when they get some sunshine and find some nice green stuff to eat.

Did you notice how silly he looks since he's molting and losing his tail feathers?

Naughty Rooster Boy

The human moved the peafowl and ducks back to their pen, but she didn't do anything with Naughty Rooster Boy and the two hens. She just left them and said, "Don't go in the yard."

Well, Rooster Boy was a free range bird until he was shut in last month. He was happy to be out.

He even had the company of one lovely hen.

The human reminded her that the dogs would eat her if she went in the yard. Looks like she's taking that warning to heart.

Where was the other hen?

She was too big of a, well, chicken to even come out of the building. Suppose she'll ever come out and enjoy being a free range hen?

She has the other two back in the building with her today. They are just sitting up there being hot. Bird brained chickens.

This Afternoon

This afternoon, just about dinner time, the human and her mom came into the barnyard. We all got ready to eat, but she didn't feed us.

She went in the building and came out without food, and went to the other building and came out without food, and went back to the other building. She kept doing this over and over. When she got done, there was a big change in the barnyard.

The peafowl and ducks are back in the big pen where they had been for a very long time. Those peafowl still haven't settled down from the human catching them. They just keep pacing back and forth.

The ducks were a bit calmer. They took a bath and then they felt at home again.

We had to wait forever to get our dinner. That Bud is always trying to get the first bite (he tries eating it before it hits the feed pan).

She did finally feed us though, so I'm happy again.

Guess what the human did with Naughty Rooster Boy~I'll tell you tomorrow who's right.

New Friends for Naughty Rooster Boy

There's a bunch of these little chicks in a pen.

They'll grow up to be pretty laying hens.

At least we hope there are no more noisy roosters.

Training the Human

Someone certainly has done a good job training the human. Whenever Naughty Rooster Boy sees this,
he struts over and starts circling close to the human. Now, when we do that she shoos us away and tells us to get a drink from the cattle tank (goose sludge).

She fills him up a bowl of water!

Look at him.

He circles.

He dips his beak.

He almost dances while he drinks.

A little bowl all to himself. She says, "Here you go, Rooster Boy." She doesn't even call him Naughty Rooster Boy!

Considering he's supposed to be a raccoon snack, he certainly has trained the human well.

In This Corner...

Naughty Rooster Boy was kicked out of the chicken coop because he was so mean and nasty to the other roosters.

He still likes to hang out by the chicken pen now that the weather is nice.

The orange rooster isn't afraid of him now though.

There's a fence that keeps him safe.

Look who's all tough!

They could fight all day!

Except Cutie and Vixen don't appreciate being in the fight.

Looks like he picked a fight in the wrong corner.

Look at that chicken run!
