It Might Be Time

Sugar, really, it might be time to think about weaning your kid.

I think Scout will be just fine without nursing.

Squiggy

Squiggy seems to have accepted the fact that he's weaned.

He does look like he's enjoying all that hay.

The Little Weaners

Thirteen little bucks are still shut up north to be weaned.  You'd swear they were being killed when their maas are near.  They yell and holler and want to nurse.  As soon as their maas go out to pasture though, the human gives them hay.  She even gives it to them before I get mine!

They look pretty happy!  Silly little weaners!

A Noisy Time

It's that noisy time of year when the human tells us that the little boys have to be weaned.

It makes both maas and kids unhappy.

The Vote is In

We all took a vote in the matter of Custer and Victoria.

We think the human should wean Custer.  He's about to knock poor Victoria off her feet.

Vixen Thinks She's Dying

The human was horribly mean and weaned and took seven of our kids from the farm last weekend.  Vixen's boy,  Buck, was one of the big kids that left.

Now Vixen thinks she's dying.  She lays by her maa and won't leave her side.

What's worse, is the way she lays there just wailing about how horrible her udder feels.

It's really quite melodramatic.

All I have to say about that is, "Let your daughter nurse!"

 Really!  I'm sure Doe would appreciate not being weaned.

Where Jelly Went

When the human weaned Jelly, she was with me and a few other mature girls in half the barnyard.

The human made a couple comments about us not letting Jelly eat any grain, and she took her to be with kids her own age. Now she's with Fionn, who doesn't mind sharing his hay.

She's also with Bonnie and Blaze and Victoria.

She's also with Haley and Harley, Cinnamon, and Coral and Clover.

They all seem to get along pretty well up there.

That's good because it's one less kid to have trying to sneak my grain.

I wonder if the human would put those mini goats up there if we didn't let them eat...

Muffin and Jelly

This is Muffin and her daughter Jelly. Jelly was the last kid that was born this past June.

That makes her just over six months old. She loves eating with her Maa. After all, hay is very good.

After hay, Jelly enjoys a lovely dessert of Maa's milk. Her tail still wags too fast to even see it.

The human decided it was high time Jelly was weaned, even if Muffin wasn't going to do it.

Now Jelly and Muffin are in separate areas of the barnyard. You should hear them both holler about it.

Weaning

The human banished the ten big March boys into the north pen.

She said they are huge. Anything this big should not be nursing. Litha doesn't seem to mind that Felix and Oscar are still nursing.

Felix is bigger than yearlings Flower and Bud and way bigger than Haley, who is the same age. The human said those boys have got to get out of the barnyard now!

Some of the boys aren't too happy about being weaned. Oscar is trying to escape and get back to his mother.

Xavier wants his mom.

So does Xander.

Xavier and Xander's mom, Meg, is miserable.

The human took pity on her and said, "Meg, come here and I'll milk you out." Good grief! She was actually overflowing!

Now Meg, Helen and Minnie all three get to be milked. I want to go in and get milked too, but the human won't let me in there.

Weaned?

Does Dana look like she's weaned? She's not nursing her mom, but she's not supposed to be in the same place either.

She left her poor twin sister, Dixie, out there all by herself.

Sisters should stick together.

Two Big Mouths

Kizzy and Muffin are very noisy. The human locked them up.

She said that Muffin had to quit letting her two girls nurse because they are big and she is getting thin.

Kizzy's girls aren't so big, but she seems to be in a motherly way after the little boys busted out. That means she needs to dry up and worry about new babies not the two that are four-months-old.

Isn't it amazing that they can eat so much? Isn't it even more amazing that they can share? The human usually says we're pushy and don't share.

See, not all goats don't know how to share.
