A Bad Influence

Sugar was on the wrong side of the fence. This is not good because she was all by herself. If she got scared and ran the wrong way, she would be on the road.

I know this is all Pistol's fault. My Pebbles would never have a naughty kid. I'm sure the only reason Sugar was a naughty girl is because she has been following Pistol.

After all, Pistol is older (by two days) and it had to be that she led my innocent grandkid astray. I bet Pistol dared her to do it. Luckily, she found her way back in without anything bad happening.
I wish we could go over into the tall grass on the other side of the pasture. The human let the bovine and llama go over there, and I think we should get to also.

Weed Eater

The human usually doesn't let us help her as much as we would like, but yesterday we got to surprise her. She left the gate to the driveway unchained, and Mabel was quick to figure that out. We all decided to go out and help her get rid of the weeds. We cleared the fencerow of the nettles (yummy) and scrub mulberry bushes. We got rid of everything under the old gas tank.

Like many kids, the goat kids got distracted and decided to play in the ranger. They left hoof prints all over the seat.

We warned them, but they left other evidence of their playing too.

We got as much of the rose bush as we could reach. You'll notice we got all but the very top part. We worked so hard on this, and we really enjoyed this job. Jack really wanted to come out and help us, but the human didn't leave his gate open.

We worked on the cherry bushes. They are quite tall, and we couldn't get all the way to the top on them. Marley and Jack were very impressed with what a good job we did.
Some of us tried the weeds (she calls them hostas) under the cherry bushes, but the they didn't really taste too good, and we figured she wouldn't be too mad if we left a little. After all, we got rid of a lot of green stuff.

By the time we finished, Joe was taking a nap and Jilly had curled up on top of the cattle tank waiting to be hauled away. Lily, Muffin, Betty Lou and Helen had found their way into the lean to and was eating a bale of straw--go figure. All this hard work, and the human didn't even say thank you!

Barney

Oh my, it's been a busy weekend. The human has been running around like crazy this weekend: north, up, down, around, south, and inside out. I'm not sure what all she was doing, but I guess she'll tell you about it in her blog. As for my weekend in the barnyard, I don't know where to start.
Usually when our kids leave the farm we get sad, especially the boys. We don't know where they go because we've never left the farm, but the human never seems happy about it. But yesterday when she loaded Barney up, she was cheerful.

She was talking to him about going to his own forever farm where he would get to dance and frolic and make babies and live a long happy life. Yeah for Barney!

Today

Can you believe what happened to me today?
Hope your day was better than mine!

Tools

The human has a lot of different tools that she uses out here. Some are used to help build fence and keep us in.

Some are for fixing fence and helping to keep us from escaping, especially making sure kids don't get out. (Pistol and Vinnie I hope you are listening.)

One of the tools she uses the most is fascinating.

It helps clean our water buckets when the geese make them nasty. It used to be used to clean the cattle tank when we actually had one out here.

One of my favorite uses for this tool...

Just Another Day

Hmmm... looks like she could use some more rubbing and scratching.
Strange roomies. They are both fierce when they have babies!
Dolly has resorted to the feed tub to control her girls again.
He hasn't been mean to anyone lately. Does that mean he'll get to stay?
He used to stay with us, but he doesn't like our kids bouncing all over him.
Just another day around the farm.

Shedding Part 2

There are some things that work better for getting the fur out than others. Minnie enjoys a good rump scratch by the human.

The human pulls out handfuls of loose fur from Minnie's neck.

Helen and Mason play in front of one of our favorite ways to remove loose fur. Can you guess how it works?

Maggie and Scarlet demonstrate this technique in another favorite area to remove fur.

The little places where the wires cross really pull the fur out. We need this cleaned out, or we'll have to find new places.
Marley uses the gate.

There is a whole line up for this one. It started with Kizzy, then Sally and finally Litha leans into it.

Betty really leans and pushes into the fence to get the best hair removal possible.

Muffin found a good way to get rid of the excess fur on the backside. We can't get the human to spend the whole day taking turns with rump scratches.

Soon we'll all be sleek again.
